Girard-Perregaux 1966 – Bucherer Limited Edition

March 16th, 2010

The 'Girard-Perregaux 1966 – Bucherer Limited Edition' celebrates a highly successful ten year partnership between the Bucherer and Girard-Perregaux companies. The Girard-Perregaux 1966 – Bucherer Limited Edition, celebrates a highly successful ten year partnership between the Lucerne-based luxury watch and jewelry retail store and the Swiss luxury watch manufacture. This commemorative edition, limited to only 88 pieces, confirms the close links between the Bucherer and Girard-Perregaux companies.

Girard-Perregaux watches are one of the few remaining authentic Swiss watches, created by a Swiss Manufacture that designs, creates, develops and produces its own movements, cases, dials, in fact every last part of all of the watches in its collections.

The exclusive Girard-Perregaux 1966 Bucherer Limited Edition houses the Girard-Perregaux GP3300 calibre mechanical, self-winding movement, whose complexity and delicate finishes are visible through the timepiece’s press-in, Sapphire crystal case-back. And on-show this movement should be, for it was in 1966 when Girard-Perregaux produced its first high-frequency movement that was based on Gyromatic technology; hence the homage to this date in the collection’s name.

With a ’simple’ set of functions, hours, minutes, seconds and a date window at three o’clock, a red gold case and a champagne coloured dial this watch has a classic and understated elegance. An elegance that is also achieved in the watch’s size, 38 mm in diameter and 8.5 mm in height.

Perhaps, with only 88 pieces available world-wide getting a Girard-Perregaux 1966 Bucherer Limited Edition on your wrist is not going to be that easy. But, The Watch Gallery in London has many other models of the Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection – all of which combine Girard-Perregaux’s watch-making excellence with its renowned elegant style.

March 12th, 2010

The referees of the RBS 6 Nations Rugby Tournament will be wearing specially designed, Limited Edition Graham WatchesGraham of London are not only on a winning streak with their sponsorship of Formula 1 racing teams. For the second year in a row now they are also the 2010 official timekeeper and sponsor of the Royal Bank of Scotland’s 6 Nations Rugby Tournament. And the referees will be wearing specially designed Graham watches.

Graham of London have produced a unique chronograph that meets the exacting and demanding techincal expectations of the RBS 6 Nations’s matches. The colourful Chronofighter Oversize Referee will be worn by the referees to adjudicate every match during the tournament.

This limited edition is based on Graham’s Oversize collection of watches. These watches are both stylish and functional. The red lever matches the red rubber strap.

The signature design piece to Chronofighter Oversize Referee is a colourful seconds counter at 3 o’clock that has one colour for each of the 6 participating squads. Another specific feature for the referees is the double-graduated counter at 6 o’clock: the external circle is the 30 minutes counter, while the internal one shows 40 minutes – the time period of each half of the rugby. And of course, the chronograph suitably heavy duty for referees of a rugby match.

The Chronofighter Oversize Referee is limited to 250 pieces, and they are available from The Watch Gallery.

Giuliano Mazzuoli Creates the Paul Newman Contagiri

March 10th, 2010

Giuliano Mazzuoli created 25 Paul Newman watches to be auctioned for Newman's Foundation: Hole in the Wall CampsIn 2009 the strikingly different and innovative Contagiri from Giuliano Mazzuoli won the Dutch Horloges magazine’s ‘Watch of the Year Award’, in one of the men’s watches category. What makes Giuliano Mazzuoli watches so unique is that their design is based on a pressure gauge found on cars and machines. To say that Giuliano Mazzuoli likes auto racing and racing cars is perhaps an understatement. But it is this passion that has been used to help others.

Mazzuoli describes the moment he received the first prototype of the Contagiri: “When I received the first prototype of ‘Contagiri’ I felt a strong desire to show it to someone that I have always admired and that like me, really loves auto racing.”

That person he was referring to is Paul Newman, another man renowned for his passion for cars and racing. Mazzuoli got to meet Newman, and to give Newman his dream watch. Paul Newman wanted to auction the watch for his foundation: Hole in the Wall Camps. Giuliano Mazzuoli went a step further and provided 25 watches for auction.

Hole in the Wall Camps provides children with serious illnesses a medically safe but at the same time a magical environment of fun and adventure away from the realities of hospital beds and doctors’ offices they are often so used to. These camps are the work of Paul Newman, and they are also made possible by thousands of volunteers and generous donors. So far, over 114 000 children from 33 countries have attended 11 of these camps, free of charge.

Jura has Only One of this U-Boat Watch

February 25th, 2010

This U-Boat watch is limited to 200 pieces worldwide, and Jura Watches has one. Hot off the press, as the saying goes, is news of a World first from U-Boat.

U-Boat have just launched the World’s first Black Titanium watch, pictured here to the left.

This U-Boat watch is the latest addition to the Classico collection of watches. U-Boat watches, just like their original namesake, are bold, aggressive and oversized, and this particular model is 52 mm and weighs in at only 179g.

This model is waterproof to a depth of 200m. As a result, the exhibition glass that usually shows the entire movement has been reduced in size here to minimize the surface over which high pressure has an effect. The smaller exhibition glass means that the focus is on the balance wheel.

The watch has an incredibly light case-build that contains a Valjoux movement and a power reserve of 44 hours at 28,800 alternations per hour.

This truly amazing watch is limited to 200 pieces, and one is available exclusively to a Jura Watches customer today. If you are not fast enough, you will have to choose another U-Boat watch, there are many to choose from.

A New U-Boat for Baselworld 2010

February 11th, 2010

The new U-Boat - limited to 999 pieces We have just received news of a new limited edition U-Boat watch to be launched at Baselworld, the World’s most important event for the luxury watch and jewellery industry taking place in Switzerland next month.

At Baselworld last year, U-Boat unveiled their U-42. At 65mm the watch required the widest sapphire glass available in the world. With only 29 pieces produced, and each one made of grade-5 titanium, they are very definitely a collectors piece. At Baselworld this year, U-Boat will be launching a 45mm version of the same model, limited to 999 pieces worldwide.

This new smaller model is fitted with the U-28 movement and has a 40 hour power-reserve.

The winding crown is made up of two parts: one is attached to the movement stem whilst the other is hinged to it with a pivot. This gives a flexible joint configuration which allows the crown to protrude considerably from the watch itself for winding and setting, yet returning it to a protected and hidden position. Compare the positions of the crown in the two photographs.

This type of crown diminishes the side clutter when the watch is in action. Also, this crown is important under certain conditions when it is necessary for activities during which gloves are required, such as underwater operations and environmental practise at Arctic temperatures.

The particular make up of the crown for this watch does not compromise the watch being fully water-tight. The crown and stem’s water-tight protection is guaranteed by a clipping gasket that is made of polytetrafluoroethylene, and also by a specifically designed O-ring twin-arrangement. This enables the U-42 dive watch to be water resistant down to a depth of 300m.

The dial is made with a slab in brass. All engravings on the watch are carried out by mechanical pantograph, including the brass dial which is galvanized and finished with a bright enamel paste.

This year’s model may be smaller than last year’s model, but it is every bit as amazing. Remember it is limited to only 999 pieces worldwide, the U-Boat will be available from Jura Watches, London.

U-Boat Watches will be at Baselworld 2010

The Supermarine Descent – Bremont’s New Dive Watch

January 29th, 2010

Bremont Watches: available from Jura WatchesBremont’s recent Supermarine 500 dive watch turned out to be quite a hit. Following on from this success Bremont watches are about to unveil a new luxury, limited edition dive watch, the Supermarine Descent.

The ‘Descent’ has Bremont’s unique three-piece case construction which allows this dive watch a water resistance of up to a depth of 500m, or 1660ft. But this case retains Bremont’s distinctive curved profile and a size of 42mm. The sapphire crystal protecting the dial is coated on both sides with Bremont’s usual nine layers of anti reflective coating.

As with all good dive watches this model has been extensively tested in the UK by Bremont at their testing facility resulting in the construction of an ‘anti-shock’ movement mount specifically designed to help protect the movement against significant shocks. The Swiss made movement is housed in an anti-magnetic Faraday cage so as to protect the balance, the balance spring and the escapement from any adverse effects of magnetisation.

The Bremont Watch Company is a British company founded by Nick and Giles English. And this model takes its name from the brother’s love of the iconic British aircraft manufacturer responsible for the Supermarine S6B Schneider Trophy Seaplane. And following through with this theme, the watch is limited to 407 pieces, which is the top speed George Stainforth achieved in 1931 with the S6B.

Tsovet Watches that Make a Lasting Impression

January 25th, 2010

Tsovet WatchesTsovet watches are inspired by objects that have been built to last, and also by those that make a lasting impression. These inspirational objects are vintage industrial gauges and aviation instruments.

Tsovet have taken the durability and precision of these gauges and instruments, as well as their dated retro-style, to produce an attention grabbing collection of designer watches. The finely knurled dial knobs, the distinct indicator arms, and the distinct alphabetical and numerical indices are all style features that have been borrowed from the old gauges and instrument dials to create a distinctive and unique image.

The limited edition model shown here to the left is typical of the Tsovet brand. The screw-down 9mm knurled crown is reminiscent of an industrial gauge. But here it is produced in rose gold.

The watch has a four-piece, 48 mm case that is made of aerospace grade stainless steel and rose gold. It has a Swiss quartz movement, with a calendar. The dark brown Italian calf leather strap has an orange leather backing and a brushed rose gold buckle. The dial is protected by a hardened mineral crystal that is both scratch resistant and anti-reflective.

Tsovet watches are available from The Watch Department, official authorised dealers for the brand in the United Kingdom

New Corum Watches for Mr and Mrs

January 24th, 2010

Corum WatchesThirty years ago saw the launch of the most iconic of all the Corum watches – the Golden Bridge. Back then Corum was intent on positioning itself at the forefront of the Swiss Watch Industry. To these ends the ultimate in transparent timepieces was produced. This watch also featured the rarely used ‘baguette’ movement.

To celebrate the success of this legendary model Corum have produced limited editions of the Miss Gold Bridge and the Golden Bridge for men, in which transparency has been taken to new limits. Traditionally a watch’s dial is arranged to the front of the movement, the 2010 Golden Bridge model has a dial behind the movement. The visual impact is a case in which the dial forms the background to a prominent baguette movement.

Until now women only had the men’s Golden Bridge or high jewellery models to choose from. The new Miss Golden Bridge has been given a more slender and curved tonneau shape. The slender shape is accentuated by the placement of the winding crown at 6 o’clock.

This new interpretation of the women’s Golden Bridge is available in 18 carat white or red gold, in non-set and set models with 90 full-cut size diamonds. Only 333 pieces a year will be produced. The 2010 Golden Bridge for men, is available in 6 different models and also in limited quantities. The movement bridges are 18 carat yellow gold, red gold or white gold.

Corum watches for men and women are available at Jura Watches, London.
